A truly unique tuba not available from any other manufacture, the Elgar Eb tuba is based on the Cavalry tubas popular with British military bands in the early part of the 20th century - combining the best of both British and American tuba design.
The tuba is a fully compensated tuba, so is fully chromatically in tune with just 4-valves - while at the same time it has much more comfortably positioned front action valves like most American tubas - but has the 4th valve positioned to operate by the left giving much more flexibility to move around in the low register. An additional benefit with this valve layout is there are less bends in the tubing making it much more open blowing than top action compensated tubas, particularly in the low register. This tuba really must be played to understand how much better it plays and how much more comfortable to hold.
